High-Resilience (HR) Foam: the workhorse of modern upholstery and the default choice for compressed sofas. Density is the critical metric: 35 kg/m³ is the minimum for residential use; 40–45 kg/m³ extends lifespan to 7–10 years.

Pocket Spring Core: premium seating option providing firm, even support. For compression, a hybrid design — thinner pocket-spring unit (10–12 cm) with thicker HR foam topper — allows the foam to absorb compression forces. Sinuous Spring: most common in mid-market sofas, compression-friendly, lightweight, cost-effective.
