How to Vet a Compressed Sofa Supplier: 7 Quality Checks Before You Sign

1. A story that repeats at every fair

At the 2026 Shanghai furniture fair, a European brand owner told us his previous compressed-sofa factory had serious quality failures — and that he was re-selecting suppliers on quality consistency above all. 2. The 7 quality checks before you sign

1. Foam produced in-house or outsourced? Ask whether the factory foams its own sponge or buys it. Outsourced foam means no control over density consistency between batches — request 36D verification per batch.
2. Density verified per batch. A spec sheet is not evidence. Request batch-level density test reports for the actual production run, naming the batch.
3. Pre-production sample sign-off. Insist that the mass-production reference is a physical, signed sample — not a catalogue photo.
4. Batch inspection against that sample. Stitching, frame joinery and fabric cutting checked against the signed sample on every production run.
5. Third-party testing on file. BS 5852 / TB 117-2013 fire-safety and REACH documentation issued by SGS or TÜV — not self-declared.
6. Container loading discipline. Agreed quantity verified with a loading plan; short shipments are a quality-culture signal.
7. Warranty terms in writing. Foam resilience and frame coverage stated in the commercial quotation — not only on a website.

3. Red flags heard on the showroom floor

• “Quality problems are handled case by case.” — Case by case means no process.
• Certificates without report numbers or issuing laboratories.
• A factory that will not make a pre-production sample before mass production.
