1. What is a sofa MOQ?

MOQ (minimum order quantity) is the smallest number of units a factory will produce per model in one batch. It is not arbitrary — every batch has fixed setup costs: cutting patterns, foam moulding runs, frame assembly line changeover, fabric roll allocation. The MOQ spreads those costs across enough units to keep the per-unit price viable for both buyer and factory.

MOQ applies per model. Multiple colours of the same model can share the model MOQ; different models in one mixed container should each meet a practical minimum.

3. Starting below the MOQ: three options

  1. Sample order — order 1–2 prototype units at sample pricing (1.5× the EXW unit price) to verify foam density, frame, fabric hand-feel and the vacuum pack before committing. The sample fee is credited in full against your first bulk order, and the sample ships in 7–15 days by international express.
  2. Mixed-model container — combine several models (each meeting its 10-set MOQ) toward a full container. You test more of the range in one shipment, and the factory schedules one batch for all of them.
  3. Repeat-order commitment — agree a quarterly or annual volume in writing; factories reward committed buyers with better MOQ and pricing.

4. How MOQ affects price and lead time

  • Below MOQ — quoted at sample pricing (1.5× EXW); larger below-MOQ requests are confirmed case by case with our sales team
  • At MOQ — standard pricing applies; bulk production runs 30–40 days after deposit
  • Custom ODM — 45–70 days including prototyping; MOQ still applies per model
